TCZF 2017 date & artwork!

We’re very excited to announce that the 13th annual Twin Cities Zine Fest will be held Saturday September 30th at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts! We’re thrilled to partner with the great folks at MCBA to host an event which will have more space and a new audience to share the love of zines!

And we’re thrilled to reveal our fabulous poster for TCZF 2017 created by Twin Cities artist and zinester Chan Chau! We couldn’t be happier to celebrate the spirit of TCZF with Chan’s wonderful art. Check out more of Chan’s artwork at http://cargocollective.com/chanc.

Day of fest workshops

Day of fest workshops

We’re so excited to announce our workshop schedule! These events will all take place during the fest, Saturday September 24th at the Walker Community United Methodist Church (3104 16th Ave S in Minneapolis). Please join us in discussing these fascinating topics:

  • noon-1 pm “Building Community with Zines in the Twin Cities”: An informal discussion about creating meaningful connections with others in the zine community and beyond.
  • 1:30-2:30 pm “Fancify Your Zine!”: A skillshare where you can learn about how other zinesters make their zines visually interesting, whether with deluxe bindings or specialized printing or unique folding techniques. Bring your own work and share how you fancy up your own publications!
  • 3-4 pm “The Zine-ification of Roleplaying Games”:  Roleplaying games originated in Midwestern garages but grew into an industry of impenetrable accessories and expensive hardcovers. Today, zinesters are reclaiming the genre with online distribution, minimal production values, and varied genres. Come learn about roleplaying games, browse books, and even play a short game!
Pre-fest zinester readings

Pre-fest zinester readings

Not one, but two zinester readings are happening to get everyone ready for TCZF 2016!

First we’ll celebrate the queer zinester community in the Twin Cities by featuring queer and gender non-conforming folks at our Queer Zine Reading, Friday September 16th from 7-8:30 pm at the Quatrefoil Library (1220 E Lake St, Minneapolis). Readers include Sam Glitterwurst, Leda Zawacki, D. Allen, and Stephanie Ursula Aristizábal. RSVP at our Facebook event and invite your friends for a great evening!

The night before TCZF, we’ll attempt to harness some of that excitement in our TCZF Kickoff Zinester Reading, Friday September 23rd from 7-9 pm at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (1011 S Washington Ave, Minneapolis). Our readers will be James DeWitt, Lacey Prpić HedtkeRoy G. GuzmánRobert Wildwood, M.S. Harkness, and Lizzie Savage. RSVP at our Facebook event and show some love to TCZF exhibitors!

Both events are free, though we’re happy to accept donations for TCZF 2017! Thanks to our partner organizations the Q Library and MCBA for hosting us!
