Pre-fest zinester readings

Pre-fest zinester readings

Not one, but two zinester readings are happening to get everyone ready for TCZF 2016!

First we’ll celebrate the queer zinester community in the Twin Cities by featuring queer and gender non-conforming folks at our Queer Zine Reading, Friday September 16th from 7-8:30 pm at the Quatrefoil Library (1220 E Lake St, Minneapolis). Readers include Sam Glitterwurst, Leda Zawacki, D. Allen, and Stephanie Ursula Aristizábal. RSVP at our Facebook event and invite your friends for a great evening!

The night before TCZF, we’ll attempt to harness some of that excitement in our TCZF Kickoff Zinester Reading, Friday September 23rd from 7-9 pm at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts (1011 S Washington Ave, Minneapolis). Our readers will be James DeWitt, Lacey Prpić HedtkeRoy G. GuzmánRobert Wildwood, M.S. Harkness, and Lizzie Savage. RSVP at our Facebook event and show some love to TCZF exhibitors!

Both events are free, though we’re happy to accept donations for TCZF 2017! Thanks to our partner organizations the Q Library and MCBA for hosting us!

We’re looking for folks who are willing to give just a few hours to make TCZF 2016 happen! Volunteer shifts include making buttons, folding programs, creating artwork, and helping out on the day of the fest. Please fill out our volunteer form to let us know how you can help us make the fest great!

Huge thanks to our pals at the Seward Cafe (2129 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis) for hosting us! All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Twin Cities Zine Fest 2016. Please spread the word and join the Facebook event.

Submit a workshop proposal

Have a great idea for a workshop, panel discussion, or DIY session at TCZF 2016? Please submit a workshop proposal!

While we’ll be happy to consider all proposals, we’d like to specifically ask for proposals of skill shares and discussion topics about the Black Lives Matter movement and police violence (in accordance with our solidarity statement). If there is interest, we can offer a safer space exclusively for POC during the fest.

The Twin Cities Zine Fest goes beyond zines and self publishing. TCZF is a community, a space for the Twin Cities community. We organize this event because we love the Twin Cities and Minnesota and we want to see our area thrive. Part of our mission is to support politically and socially engaged work, and to uplift the voices and experiences of traditionally marginalized groups. In the light of the murders of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, and Philando Castile in Falcon Heights MN, we feel responsible to say something and to act. We stand in solidarity and support the efforts to end racism, police brutality, and support the families of those suffering from ruthless violence and murder from the hands of the police and the state.

Though we are a small event, the Twin Cities Zine Fest organizers strive to create a space that is anti-racist, accessible, and just. We are here for everybody. We will stand up for everybody in the name of justice.

How you can help:

Make your voice heard, whether in the street or by talking to friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors.

Yesterday we sent out emails to everyone who has a spot at TCZF 2016, and we’ve been busy inviting organizations from Minnesota and beyond to be a part of the fest. This is the fun part—and a big part of our commitment to building community! If you know of zine-focused organizations that would like to be represented at TCZF (especially ones that are focused on people of color), please get in touch!
